Here is the place to discuss your theories on what Shadow People are. I will be posting on here often with my ideas, but don't hesitate to argue what's posted and present alternative ideas! It's about Research. It's about Answers!

It is in my opinion, though all the case studies I have been able to research and collect since 2002 that there are three levels (or three tiers in the hierarchy) of Shadow People.
Tier 3, (Lowest Level) - Darters / Peepers = These entities are approximately three to four feet in height. They appear to be bi-pedal and wear cloaks when seen in direct line of sight. Their eyes glow with a red or green hue and they do not make any sounds. Like most other Shadow Person sightings, the encounter with these entities is accompanied by a sense of dread and the feeling of being watched. In my personal experiences, isolated EMF fields are NOT present during these overwhelming feelings, making it unlikely to be caused by electromagnetic interference. Sightings of these entities tend to lead to experiences with the more advanced / higher level Shadow People, and in few cases, have appeared to directly work with higher level Shadow People.
Tier 2, (Most Prevalent Sightings) - Shadow People = These entities appear when the client / subject is under great spiritual change, physical or mental duress, or psychic attack. They have also been seen around crop circles, or in some cases, seen in the homes of or around clients that are in some way related to governmental matters or under government surveillance. They are approximately 6 feet in height, have either glowing white or red eyes, or black holes where the eyes would be. They appear to be wearing a long jacket, like a duster or trench coat, dressed all in dark clothing (grey or black), and can be either Male or Female. Males generally have short black hair and the females have been seen with long blond or dark brown hair. Prior to the appearance of these entities, the witness tends to be filled with an overwhelming sense of dread or the feeling of being watched. When they appear, in most cases, they look like a fully physical human. Some witnesses report that they walk and move like normal people, while others claim that the entity can appear and disappear and move from place to place in the blink of an eye. Many people experiencing this type of phenomenon begin seeing them at a very young age (generally 3-12 years of age) and do not experience them again until later on in life (generally in their late teens/early 20's and again in their early 30's). Correlations can be drawn to periods of direct psychic/spiritual development as well as periods of physiological change. Others will experience Shadow People during periods where they are attempting to study the phenomenon, even if they have not had previous encounters with the entities. In most cases, manifestation begins with the appearance of movement in the peripheral vision and eventually comes into direct line of sight. Some witnesses claim that they feel as though they are being studied by these creatures, and even when seen in direct sight, the entities will continue to watch until the witness makes a move towards them or demands them to leave. Few reports that I have collected suggest that there is ANY verbal or telepathic communication between people and Shadow People.
Tier1, (Top of Hierarchy) - The Hat Men = These entities are the most iconic sighting of Shadow People. Hat Men generally are about 6 feet in height, appear to be wearing a long flowing coat (duster or trench coat) and have on a rimmed hat (bowler hat, fedora, cowboy hat depending on the sighting). These entities have the common sense of dread and being watched as all other Shadow People do, their eyes tend to either glow white or appear as darker "voids" where the eyes would be. Of all the cases of Hat Men that I have read and collected, these entities appear to be Male unlike tier 2 which appears to be of mixed gender. In two cases I have collected, these Hat Men have had discourse with the witnesses, seemingly to relate that they are "watching" the witnesses. In one case, the Tier 3 Shadows apparently came for the witness before the Hat Man interaction occurred. Other than these slight differences, the Hat Men have a lot of similarities in terms of the timing of the incidents and intent as the Tier 2 Shadow People. They are defined in form and detailed in terms of what witnesses can identify (clothing, some features, etc). The best description of how they look is either like a dark solid form, or almost like liquefied air (which can resemble an oil slick over water, then wrapped into a 3 dimensional form).
These classifications are the best determinations I could draw based upon the case files and reports that I have read coupled with my personal encounters. If anyone has more information that I may have missed or any ideas other than those expressed here, please feel free to share them on this board and let us know what you think. Otherwise, take this as food for thought, not as fact...These are just my opinions and I hope that others can validate or refute them.

Dang, I like that you have a pole but I think that shadow people could be a lot of these things. I also think that there are some variables where some could be Native American helper spirits, some could be aliens but in order to them to travel they do so in an interdenominational way. I have had some experiences with these folks and while most just seem to be watching one which came in the form of and animal has communicated with me. I believe the animal shadow to be a helper.

Hey Nora,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree, a lot of Shadow People reports simply are souls of humans who are attempting to manifest in our reality. As black is the complete absence of light, it makes sense to me that the spirits are not only drawing all the energy they can from electrical and thermal sources, but also from any light or photonic energy in the area as well.
And for anyone interested, I'm still working on the book. If you'd like to send me your stories for the work, I will put a special thanks with your name if you'd like. Otherwise, if you wish to remain anonymous, please let me know, but either way, I will send you a free copy of the book before it goes to publication.
Cheers!

I'm happy to have found this forum, I've just recently decided to look for answers and understanding to my experiences. It's with a little difficulty and humbleness I tell my story the best way I can explain. When I was in grade school I was able to remote view before I even knew what it was, it's so easy anyone can do it if they were told how. I found out by accident. As I got into middle school it scared me, so I promised myself I wouldn't do it anymore, and I didn't feel anything positive could come of it. My shadow people experience started when I was 12. I'm pretty sure I was home alone because I don't remember telling anyone, as I'd imagine I would. It was daytime and the sunlight was shining into the house. I don't remember feeling anything specific, as happy, sad, etc. I noticed something out of the corner of my eye, and when I looked I became a little startled to see a shadow person peaking around a corner. Directly behind him was a sliding glass door with natural light coming in, but not a strong beam or anything. I noticed the creature looked like a three dimensional shadow with an estimated height of 4-5 feet. It's hand was holding the wall, and it's head was peering around the corner exposing the full face, the rest of the body was out of view (inside the kitchen). I don't recall anything about the eyes, but I could either faintly see or assumed it had eyes looking at me. I remember the debate I had with myself that lasted about 20 seconds (Do I run or attack it). It didn't seem hostile, but I didn't have a good feeling about it either. My sense was that it was content to observe, but I wasn't sure if it knew I could see it. I then decided to attack it, I wasn't very confident I could do anything but I chose to advance anyway. As I approached it darted inside the kitchen, and wasn't seen again. I did look for it for several minutes trying to figure out where it went before giving up. I've looked back on this occasion several times to analyze the evidence, and come to some conclusion. I've never added anything or taken anything away from the experience, still I never could make sense of it. Later in life at age 21 I was in another State, and getting ready to go out on the back porch for a smoke (i smoked then). It was nighttime, and there wasn't much light in the house. I opened the back sliding door, and as I looked back to invite my father out I saw something inside the living room by the front door. I'd estimate the distance to be approximately 15 feet. I stood there frozen staring, squinting trying to determine what I was looking at. My Dad picked up on my reaction and asked me if I was ok. I asked him "do you see that" in an alarmed tone. My dad said "what", and I heard him walk out of the kitchen. I was sure not to take my eyes off of the three dimensional shadow creature, which stood approximately 6' high. My dad said, "what is that?", and I replied I don't know. I decided to approach it slowly and cautiously. It appeared to be in a praying mantice type pose with it's arms although the shape was human. I don't recall the eyes, and I'm certain it wasn't wearing a hat. I didn't observe any clothes, not to say it wasn't wearing some. As I approached closer I sensed it panic a little, like it was cornered. Then it put it's hands up, and did something with it's fingers, and that's why I remember it had fingers. Then, with it's arms raised it did a face plant onto the stairs, falling out of my line of sight. I inspected the area, turned on more lights, but no evidence of it even being there were detected. I remember my dad asking me again, "what was that," and me replying that it's a shadow person and I've seen them before (citing the single incident prior with incidents with darting shadows in the corner of the eye). When this second incident occurred I didn't recall any specific mood. Me and my dad speculated the incident, and every now and then we bring it up to eachother. At the time, my dad said he never seen anything like it, but there's been one or two occasions since that he's mentioned seeing them out of the corner of his eye. I've come up with a new theory based on the last encounter. I've been banging my head for the last couple of days trying to understand the significance of the finger dance it did before it fell to the ground out of sight. One theory I've come up with is that it's signaling. Another theory is that it was typing on a keyboard, but the fingers looked like they were wiggling or bending, not typing. I'm trying to fully determine if this is a spiritual creature or conventional (uses technology to operate). It seemed obvious in this situation that it had to do "something" to get invisible or fall through the stairs. One thing that stands out between both of these observations is that although I never saw them "appear" per se, I've never saw them vanish or fly through a wall. Both creatures concealed themselves behind a solid object prior to not being seen again. The biggest challenge I see in this is determining what they are, and what their purpose is. I suspect, and this is only my opinion, that there are laws or rules they abide by. In hindsight I wish I threw a pen or something at it to see if it would go through it or bounce off. Oh yeah when I was approaching the latter creature, I felt an overwhelming feeling of curiosity towards it, with just a little what gives you the right to be in my house attitude. That's pretty much it, hopefully my experience will help someone put the puzzle together, and I won't have to bear the burden myself. thanks, Mike R
